On July 20, the leadership transition conference of the Percussion Instrument Branch of the China Musical Instrument Association (CMIA) was held in Baodi District, Tianjin. Attendees included Gao Ping, Secretary-General of CMIA; Qian Fumin, Chief Supervisor of CMIA; Huang Wei, Deputy Director of the CMIA Information Department; representatives from member enterprises such as Tianjin Jinbao Musical Instrument Co., Ltd., Wuhan Haiping Musical Instrument Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Langfang Yundi Musical Instrument Co., Ltd., Hebei Huailai Gong Factory, and Hengshui Haowangjiao Musical Instrument Co., Ltd.; as well as Liu Gang, Associate Professor of Percussion at the Central Conservatory of Music. The conference heard the work report of the previous branch leadership, read out the official approval of the recommended candidates for the new leadership team, and completed the election of the new leadership.

This transition marks not only the handover of responsibilities for the branch's leadership, but also further clarifies the core priorities of the new term amid industry transformation and market changes. The branch will base its work on member needs, strengthen industry collaboration, promote the integration of product innovation, talent cultivation and application expansion, pool professional strengths through standardized governance, and reinforce its supporting role in industrial development through pragmatic services.

At the conference, Wu Dingjun, Factory Director of Tianjin Jinbao Musical Instrument Co., Ltd., was entrusted to deliver the work report on behalf of the previous branch leadership. Centering on serving members, the industry and society, the report reviewed the work of the previous term in areas including member exchanges, platform development, competitions & performances, and professional talent training. The branch organized member enterprises to participate in relevant exchange and seminar activities of CMIA, and leveraged the Jinbao Music Carnival as a carrier to host concerts, seminars, master classes and musical instrument competitions. It also supported local percussion competitions, ensemble performances and professional training, building a communication bridge between manufacturing, performance teaching and industry events.

While promoting industry exchanges, manufacturing upgrading and brand building were highlighted as key components of the work report. The report identified digital workshops, automated production lines, robotics, laser equipment and 3D-aided design as core elements of manufacturing upgrading, and also covered industrial design, product innovation and the commercialization of patent achievements. Member enterprises also expanded product display and external exchanges by participating in industry platforms such as Music China (Shanghai International Musical Instrument Exhibition). Social welfare and corporate responsibility were also included in the report. From building exchange platforms and focusing on manufacturing innovation to brand promotion and public welfare obligations, these efforts formed the main thread of the previous leadership's work and serve as the foundation for the new team to carry forward.

Gao Ping, Secretary-General of CMIA, read out the official approval of the recommended candidates for the new branch leadership. The conference then proceeded to the leadership election process in accordance with the CMIA Constitution and relevant regulations on the administration of branch organizations. Following a show of hands by attending delegates, the candidates for the new leadership team were unanimously approved:

Liu Jiaxu, General Manager of Tianjin Jinbao Musical Instrument Co., Ltd., was elected Director;

Liu Gang, Associate Professor of Percussion at the Central Conservatory of Music; Yin Fei, Associate Professor of Percussion at the Central Conservatory of Music; Wang Zhijun, Manager of Wuhan Haiping Musical Instrument Manufacturing Co., Ltd.; Wang Zhaohui, General Manager of Langfang Yundi Musical Instrument Co., Ltd.; Liu Wenchang, General Manager of Langfang Yongxin Industrial Co., Ltd.; Du Chengzhu, General Manager of Tianjin Damute Musical Instrument Co., Ltd.; Zhang Quanfu, Factory Director of Hebei Huailai Gong Factory; and Jiao Huxing, General Manager of Hengshui Haowangjiao Musical Instrument Co., Ltd., were elected Deputy Directors;

Wu Dingjun, Factory Director of Tianjin Jinbao Musical Instrument Co., Ltd., was elected Secretary-General.

Following his election, Liu Jiaxu delivered an acceptance speech, expressing gratitude to the CMIA leadership and all delegates for their trust, and paying tribute to the efforts of successive branch leadership teams and all members. "This trust is an honor, but more importantly, it is a responsibility," he stated. He noted that the new leadership team will run the branch's work through collective wisdom, place greater emphasis on professional guidance and member services, give full play to the role of experts from professional conservatories, and strengthen connections between enterprises, professional institutions and R&D forces. Meanwhile, prioritizing service to all members, the branch will further smooth communication channels, integrate industry resources, and reflect member demands, so that members can directly feel the services provided by the branch.

When discussing the expansion of percussion instrument application scenarios, Liu Jiaxu proposed that on the basis of serving professional performances, marching bands and stage entertainment, the branch should further focus on areas such as campus aesthetic education, children's music enlightenment, community culture, cultural and tourism activities, home practice and music therapy. This will make product development more responsive to specific usage needs, while upholding technology and quality as the foundation of manufacturing. Internally, the branch will adhere to rule-based operation, improve its management system, ensure openness, transparency and democratic deliberation, and deliver solid results in all its work. Liu Jiaxu stated that he will set an example, fulfill his duties diligently, work pragmatically, and work with the leadership team to implement all tasks one by one.

Qian Fumin, Chief Supervisor of CMIA, stated that he and Secretary-General Gao Ping, entrusted by Sun Ruiyong, Chairman of CMIA, extended thanks on behalf of the association to experts and colleagues who have long cared for and supported China's musical instrument industry and participated in the branch's work. He congratulated the new leadership team, fully affirmed the efforts of successive branch leadership teams and all member units for the development of the percussion instrument industry and the inheritance of percussion art, and expressed hope that the new team will carry forward the fine traditions of solidarity and mutual assistance, quality first, industry service and classic inheritance.

In recent years, affected by factors such as the international political and economic environment and domestic industrial transformation and upgrading, the global musical instrument market has generally shown a sluggish trend with structural adjustments, and is gradually emerging from the market downturn caused by the pandemic. The percussion instrument industry holds an important position in both domestic and international markets. At present, the percussion instrument market has not yet seen high-end breakthroughs or explosive growth, but popular application, cultural-tourism integration, school aesthetic education, adult hobby consumption and brand internationalization will still bring new development space. The industry should boost confidence, jointly address difficulties, and seize opportunities for transformation and development. Regarding the future work of the branch, Qian Fumin conveyed five work proposals put forward by Chairman Sun Ruiyong:

First, focus on standardized management of the branch. The new leadership team should conduct in-depth visits to production clusters, performing arts groups and member enterprises, gain a thorough understanding of member conditions, and carefully study the association's constitution and branch administration measures. It should serve members in an open, inclusive and integrated manner, promote the normalization and standardization of branch work and industry administration, and attract more percussion instrument enterprises, practitioners, enthusiasts and industry experts to participate in the development of the branch.

Second, leverage resource advantages and drive market growth through events. The value and vitality of social organizations lie in the continuous and effective organization of beneficial activities. In addition to the branch's annual meeting, member units and experts should make full use of their respective resources to hold diverse exhibitions and performances, promote skill instruction, cultural inheritance and industry services in communities and campuses, pay attention to silver-age consumption and group consumption, and seize market opportunities brought by school aesthetic education. For the international market, attention should be paid to globalization trends and emerging markets, and benefits should be pursued through brand building, quality improvement and service enhancement.

Third, prioritize innovation and increase the proportion of mid-to-high-end products. The branch should carefully study the industry's development guidelines for the 15th Five-Year Plan period, pool industry resources, accelerate the formation of an innovative R&D consortium, and promote the upgrading of products toward high-end, intelligent, customized and globalized development.

Fourth, cultivate talents and improve the industry's skill level. It is necessary to explore approaches for the integrated development of professionals with academic qualifications and skilled workers with practical experience, cultivate new industrial workers, build a sound talent echelon, and accelerate the formulation of vocational skill standards for percussion instrument makers.

Fifth, keep pace with the times and attach importance to scientific enterprise management. In the digital and intelligent era, enterprises of all sizes must ensure no gaps in all management links. Externally, enterprises should focus on products, pricing, branding, services and market share; internally, they should prioritize talent, technology, quality, cost and cash flow. Different enterprises should strengthen internal management based on their respective products, scale, market structure, talent, technology and capital conditions. The branch should enhance exchanges and mutual learning among enterprises, and leading enterprises should play a guiding and radiating role. With a multitude of tasks to handle, the branch requires scientific planning and step-by-step progress, as well as coordinated management of time and energy. The affairs of the branch require the participation of all, and its development must be jointly promoted by all colleagues.

The conference completed all scheduled agendas, and the 6th leadership team officially took over the responsibilities of the branch. Centering on the tasks proposed at the conference, such as member services, industrial innovation, talent cultivation and standardized development, the new leadership team needs to better connect member enterprises, professional conservatories, performance teaching and other stakeholders, and translate the directions outlined at the conference into concrete work one by one. For the branch, the leadership transition is merely a handover of responsibilities; the quality of this term will ultimately be measured by the tangible results delivered.
